Sunday School Spotlight: What Do These Rocks Have To Do With Jesus?

Posted by Union Chapel Communications Team on

When the trail seems unclear, and there are many possible paths to travel, a cairn can point a hiker in the right direction...
Cairns, simple stacks of rocks dotted upon a landscape or trail, are an ancient form of communication that predates the written word. These piles of stone serve as a message from one traveler to another, "This is the way." More recently cairns have been adopted into pop culture to symbolize spiritual guidance, life balance, and good decision making.
In Sunday School, we were reminded that the teachings of Jesus are like cairns for our life journey -- showing us a good path and how to make the best decisions for ourselves and how we treat others. That's why we study these ancient teachings; Life can be confusing, but we have an excellent guide to follow.

And then, of course, we had to BUILD some! Check out our "Cairn Garden" at the east entrance of the church, the next time your drop by. We'll leave you some rocks to build a cairn of your own, if you'd like to.

2 Corinthians 5:7
"...for we walk by faith, not by sight, living our lives in a manner consistent with our confidence in God’s promises."
